Office of Diversity and Inclusion Recognizes the Department

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion recognition committee named the Department of Dermatology as one of three nominees receiving Honorable Mention for the Esprit De Corps Award as part of The 2021 Pillars: Recognition of Service and Inclusive Excellence. This honors the efforts of faculty and staff for their access to dermatologic care initiatives including service at the Jackson Free Clinic and at the Delta's Rolling Fork High School Clinic; establishment of an office in Louisville, Mississippi, to serve the needs of this rural region of the state; recruitment of residents to our rural residency initiative which delivers dermatologists where they are most needed around the state; and completion of a textbook, “Dermatology in Rural Settings -- Organizational, Clinical, and Socioeconomic Perspectives,” edited by Robert T. Brodell, MD; Adam C. Byrd, MD; Vinayak K. Nahar, MD, PhD; and Cindy Firkins Smith, MD. The formal recognition ceremony occurred virtually Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021.
